Broadcast writing exercise

We'll do this exercise at the end of class on Monday.

Write a 30-second “reader” using the following information:

(Assume you are writing this story for today's 5:30 p.m. News 7 broadcast.)

- Lyndonville was placed on a “water alert” by the state health department last week because of “parasitic contamination.
- The department lifted the alert today.
- Jones Lamson, state health department director, says testing shows the danger has passed.
- Residents had been boiling their water since the alert began.

Story 2 ideas, Group B

Please submit your story ideas for Story 2 here.
You can pick one from the list (posted elsewhere on this blog) or propose one of your own. The best story ideas would come from your beats.
Here are two ideas that might make good stories for the off-campus beat and the trouble beat:
- McGoff Hill is the road leading south away from the Stonehenge parking lot. Halfway down the hill, you'll see a big sinkhole. A lot of drivers steer around it. At least one LSC student -- a TV major -- damaged his oil pan driving through it, probably a costly repair. How long until the town gets around to fixing it? Who could answer that question?
- Arizona's legislature is considering a proposal to allow students over 21 and faculty carry guns on college campuses. What do LSC administrators think? Would a similar law in Vermont make LSC safer or less safe? (This is called localizing a national story.)

Remember: Without a story idea submitted by the deadline (Feb. 28 in this case), you can't get a higher grade than a C on your subsequent story.
The story will be due Monday March 7.
